I had the opportunity to meet the blogger Bryan Boy in person last year while I was at work. He is very nice, polite and seems like a lot of fun to hang with. At the time he had a layover in Chicago before going to Milan.
I found a picture of him seated front row next to Godfrey Deeny at the Patachou show held yesterday at Fashion Rio. The reason why Bryan is in the background? He was not listed under the celebrities and editors seated in the front row.
However on his own blog, www.bryanboy.com, he says he is happy because it was cloudy drizzly in the morning he arrived in Rio. Hope you have an awesome time Bryan.

Emanuela de Paula graces the cover of the all black models January issue of Vogue Brazil. The idea isn't new, remember Vogue Italia July 2008 edition? However it seems very appropriate given that Brazil has the 2nd largest population of African descents outside Africa. Also Vogue Brazil has a new publisher, Editora Globo, and Conde Nast owns a percentage of the magazine as well. Therefore there is a big push for a better and more fashion forward magazine. Critics in Brazil don't find the magazine to be up to par to the other franchises of Vogue across the globe. But this edition proves to be a big path towards that way.

Emmanuelle Alt is the new editor in chief of Vogue Paris, where she previously worked as the fashion editor. She is also a fashion stylist and has been working for the french magazine since 2000. According to an article posted at The Huffing Post, "WWD asked a handful of fashion insiders for their thoughts on Emmanuelle Alt's new position and Karl Lagerfeld seemed very wishy-washy on whether she'd do a good job: Her style is her big shoulders, long legs, tight jeans, sleeves up to the elbow, one hip out," the designer said. "I personally like her. She's a handsome French woman. She has a style, but is it enough to make a whole magazine?"

Tom Ford is back to designing women's clothing. And his debut Spring 2011 collection presented last fall in New York caused such a buzz since no media cameras nor photographers, except for Terry Richardson, were allowed in his Manhattan boutique.
Now the video for the collection has been released on You Tube and Tom Ford's website has announced the women's collection look book to be available soon.
The wait has been long but it was well worth it. Mr. Ford show was impeccable with a cast of A Lister's that included Beyonce, Lyia Kebede, Julianne Moore and Daphne Guinness to name a few. Enjoy the show!

Every now and then comes a time when an artist, due to his/hers artistic obligations, or personal problems, can't schedule time to shoot a video. Madonna, Britney Spears, George Michael and others have done it. However, they did not do it in the beginning of their career, and their videos were not so bad. But Gaga, yes Lady Gaga, released the video for her single Teeth and did just bad. A major let down. Maybe she had a low budget because her tour is not profiting despite being sold out everywhere. Not what I expected. Your fans want to see you Lady! Instead you give us too muscle boys with vampire teeth lip syncing and dancing to your tune? Prada's fall 2011 menswear show was delightfull. Full of desirable pieces everyguy will want to have in their closet. The brand also released a you tube channel, and this season it was the first time they broadcast their runway show live through their website. When a label as big as Prada changes direction in their way of presenting their product to the media and their clients as well that means times are changing. Now we have to wait and see the others who will follow.

This past week just finished Sao Paulo Fashion Week. Latin America largest fashion week and event. And among the several talented designers that presented their collections here are a few that got a lot of media attention:
Lara Stone walked the runway for Forum Tufi Duek, with styling by Patti Smith. She is also the face of the label for this fall. And that means that as much as her face will be everywhere for Louis Vuitton worldwide, it will be in Brazil for Forum Tufi Duek given how big this label is in Brazil.

Alexandre Herchvitch is the new creative director for beachwear label Rosa Cha, and he got Chanel Iman to open his show once again. She opened for Rosa Cha last summer in New York. And she is also the face of the brand this fall.

Madonna's boyfriend Jesus Luz is the coverboy for jeanswear label Ellus. And the media was not excited about it. Most of the media in Brazil doesnt care for him as a model and some even said he looked like a "delivery boy" on the catwalk for Ellus, due to the styling, and his model presence/attitude is close to none on the runway. It was a good thing the label also had Cinthia Diker, who did an amazing job.

Brazil's favorite designer, Alexandre Herchcovitch, presented an exuberant collection that opened with Isabeli Fontana and closed with Carol Trentini, and that was her only show during SPFW.

Wow! The movie Avatar was an amazing experience. Totally not what I was expecting it to be. But actually much better! And watching it on 3D made the experience even better.
James Cameron, the same director of Titanic, takes you to different world in an incredible experience that is much more than just watching a movie. And for that the movie becomes amazing. Go see it!

I am a little annoyed with the fact that I still haven't been able to find CHEAP tickets for Lady Gaga's upcoming concert in Chicago. First her concert was scheduled to be performed at the Chicago Theater. Really nice location, but small given her mega pop status. Then it has been relocated to the All State Arena. And guess what? I still can't find tickets for the price I want. And yes I could go "bananas" and buy more expensive tickets, but ever since I did that for Madonna a couple of years ago and ended up with horrible seats I promised myself not to make the same mistake again.
Gaga is also one of covers of this month's Elle magazine, Britney Spears graces the other cover, and she will soon release her new single "Telephone", which features Sasha Fierce aka Beyonce, and is already a hit.
Although I have nothing against Elle magazine I did wish Vogue to be the first one to do a cover with Lady Gaga. Can you only fantasize a Gaga editorial styled by Grace Coddington and photographed by Steven Klein? Not to talk about the fashion because all designers would be sending in their best pieces. Anna wouldn't know what to do with herself. And I'm kinda fashion daydreaming right now...I better eat another banana...wait I can't! Hahahaha...

I believe the statement above sums up the feeling most of us have when a New Year begins. And I am no exception to the rule, and yes, I want changes and for the better in my life as well.
The first change, crazy? drastic? dramatic?, has been my eating habits went from regular to vegan. We'll see how long it will last and much of a change it will do on my body. My best friends, Marcos and Richard, the two guys in the picture from the previous post, are joining me in this challenge and it should be fun to help and support each other.
Whichever is your New Year resolution or desire for 2010 don't let anyone or anything get you down and go forward with it.

I went to the theater yesterday night and saw Tom Ford's film debut "A single man". As for the movie, and given the fact it was a debut, I thought it was very well done. For those who know Mr. Ford attention to the detail and visual aesthetics, it is impossible not to notice that throughout the movie. The cast, the wardrobe, photography and even the angle of the camera in some scenes are Mr. Ford all the way.Although I am not a movie critic I recommend watching it.

The Devil Wears Prada, Valentino, Avant Coco and The September Issue will soon have another movie joining them in their category of fashion movies. GUCCI will be directed by Ridley Scott and will have Angelina Jolie playing Patrizia Reggiano, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci. Since we are on a Brazilian thread I will keep writing posts about Brazil. This one is about the current president, Luiz Inacio da Silva, mostly known as Lula. For those who do not know he was born in poverty and barely had any education growing up. However he managed to overcome all obstacles to become the country's president. I find it very smart how some companies are easily adopting new medias such as: You Tube, Facebook and Twitter to market their brands. Marc Jacobs has not only made the show for his signature label available, but his collection for Louis Vuitton can also be watched on you tube, and the brand's Facebook page. And the collection was full of energy and youth, and I feel like the Asian market is going to be an early adopter of everything. Specially those tiny pocket bags adorned with the rabbits tails and tassels, worn with short shorts. And what about the big afros with the cute bowls?. Its city, but in a good way. Kind funny to observe Grace Coddington glimpsing through all the movement in the room as the fashionistas look for their seats in the dark.

All the media in Brazil was very anxious to see how the Alexandre Herchcovitch collection was going to turn out. I've read people saying he turned the sex appeal off and others liked it. Certain things only get better with time. And that applies to people too. At least a few of us. Last Sunday I came across two very distinct ladies that despite their age were still confident with their own selves, and taught me that there are some things in life that will only come with time. The first lady was wearing a beautiful vintage safari style khaki jacket, and given her elegance, I assumed it was an YSL jacket. Well, I was wrong as the jacket is Ralph Lauren. However I thought it was very precious when this lady turned to her granddaughter and explained the origins of the argyle print. ( I was wearing a heather gray v-neck argyle cashmere sweater). And later on the same day another lady, who was interested in buying a new necklace, was telling me on how all of her vintage jewelry from Bergdoff was set aside for her grandchildren. And she continues: "I know when the time comes for them to wear it they will have enough appreciation for it." ( In the video Coco Chanel giving an interview, circa 1970.)

So many other interesting songs to be turned into a single/video, and Britney's record label chose "Radar"? Disappointing, not to mention the video is not even a bit creative. I expected more from Britney. Hasn't Madonna done the whole horse "thing" already? I just didn't like it.

shakira's spanish version of the song "she wolf"

Loba is the word for she wolf in Spanish, and Portuguese as well. Although I like Shakira, there's still something about some of her English songs that makes it harder for you to understand. She Wolf, as an example, at times I have absolutely no clue what she is singing. So I decided to post the Spanish version of the song here. I love the black cutout body suit, and the dancing inside the cage is nice too. But the end is a bit...hmmm....disconnected with the rest of the video.

Everyone wondered what was going on when they saw Madonna walking down the red carpet with the bunny ears, in her Louis Vuitton outfit, for the Met Gala this past summer. Here's the reasoning behind it. A lot of work put into it so the whole picture can be edited out on Photoshop. Not that the house of Vuitton is on a budget constraint, but it would be cheaper to just paint her.

Not much can be said about her musical and acting career. I truly can't recall anything she did it herself that was remarkable. However I find the release of this single, entitled "Home" as a very nice gesture to pay tribute to her brother. And I wouldn't call it a publicity stunt since the proceeds will be donned to Aids Project Los Angeles. One of Michael's favorite charities. Well done LaToya Jackson.

Here's a great idea to kick off your summer season while having a great time with your friends: "A pizza sampling party". All you need is to distribute your guests into pairs, or even trios, and each one of them makes a different kind of pizza. Everyone tries a small piece, almost like a sample, and by the end of the night everyone will be stuffed.
Marcos, the host, also had the great idea of having people vote for best pizza in different categories, such as taste and creativity, which made the evening even more entertaining.

What does Mariah Carey, Madonna, Whitney Houston and Shakira have in common? No, they are not single, but they all have a new single coming up soon. Although I'm a big Mariah fan I was not very excited with her "Obsessed" single. The video doesnt seem to be very tasteful or artistic groundbreaking. I do give kudos to Mariah for managing to get Patrick Demarchilier in her video. Shakira's "She Wolf" is interesting, but it bothers me that in parts of the song you cant barely understand what she is singing. And the most anticipated comeback of the year, Whitney Houston, had a party in London with her mentor, Clive Davis, to host a first listen of her upcoming album "Comes from the heart." The first single "Look into you" is due September 1st. Least but never last, is Madonna who shot the video for her new single titled "Celebrate," in Milan during a Dolce and Gabbana party. The weird fact is that both Madonna's and Whitney's event were on the same day and they were wearing the same leopard print dress. Must be the recession!

After hosting Greenleaf's dinner party last night, we head out to Roscoe's for a few more cocktails and some boogie woogie. During dinner we took a moment to reflect on how amazing Michael Jackson was as an artist and how saddened we were with his loss. It still feels unreal to me. The very first post of this blog is titled "Gonna be starting something" because that's the song I was listening at the time. And as for last night at Roscoe's, as it approached 2am and the DJ called for last call, he gifted us with an amazing remix of Thriller. The crowd went crazy and I even saw some girls next to me tearing up. That was when I told my friends that on the count of 5 we were going to start screaming Michael. And so we did.And so did the whole crowd. It gave me the chills. Michael may God bless all of your family and fans in this very sad moment of our lives. You were truly one of the few that truly mattered.

What's the best way to celebrate a lovely summer evening? No, the answer is not outside. Instead, inside with a selective group of friends, enjoying yourselves with good food and drinks.
My fabulous friend, and New York resident, David Greenleaf is in town for the weekend. That said, I had the perfect excuse to host a dinner party. Sauvignon Blanc and caipirinhas made the perfect pairing with dutch and Spanish cheese. Followed by a fresh raspberry aragula salad and a the main course was Italian Sausage rigatoni with sun dried tomato sauce. Just delicious! And although we had chocolate mousse cake for dessert, that wasn't the last the evening had to offer... David graced us with a delightful pocket fashion show. Give a girl a pair of heels and she'll go far.

Although it seems as if summer decided to show up in Chicago a little too late...it is finally here. And its very nice and comforting to be able to go outside just wearing jeans and tee. However I am already thinking about fall. Menswear hardly ever has any major changes, and whenever it does it takes forever for men to adapt. The evening was full of beautiful people that entertained themselves while helping a good cause. The event raised almost $ 80.000, which goes toward helping and empowering women in need.

If you have not seen: "Valentino: The last Emperor", I recommend you go see it immediately. As much fun as Sex and the City was, Valentino's is entertaining , emotional and real. Not fiction!
I saw the premiere at the Landmark Theather in the Century Mall in Chicago, and was gifted with a Q&A with Matt Tyrnauer, the movie director.
Tyrnauer managed to portray more than beautiful dresses, celebrities and models. He portrayed Valentinos journey since when he started, his 50 year relationship with his lover and business partner Giancarlo Giammetti and his last days behind the multi-billion brand he created. Worth seeing it!
